Add new leads to a Mailchimp audience

A word of caution before the setup: Lead Recorder doesn't track marketing consent. Pushing every lead into an email list without checking for that first is a real problem, in Australia and most other places with spam or privacy rules. Read the filter step below before you turn this on.

What this connection does, and what it doesn't check

Every time Lead Recorder logs a new lead, this Zap can add them to a Mailchimp audience with a tag for the source they came from. What Lead Recorder itself doesn't capture is whether that person actually agreed to receive marketing email. A phone-click lead certainly didn't opt into anything. Even a form submission only did if your form itself asked. We're describing the technical behaviour here, not giving legal advice; if you're unsure what your forms need to say or capture, that's a question for a lawyer familiar with the Spam Act, GDPR, or CAN-SPAM, whichever applies to you.

Setting it up

01

Add a filter step before Mailchimp

Only continue if emailField exists, and only continue if the lead actually agreed to receive marketing email, however you capture that on your form.

02

Open the Zap template and connect both accounts

Use the embed below, or open the template directly on Zapier. Connect Lead Recorder as the trigger and your Mailchimp audience as the action.

03

Map the fields

Match email, name, and source using the table above.

04

Send a test lead

Submit a form on your own site with a real email address and confirm the subscriber appears in the audience, tagged correctly.

What catches people out

What catches people out

Consent, covered above, plus a technical version of the same problem. Phone-click leads have no email address at all. Without a filter checking that emailField exists, the Zap errors on every single one of them, which is a second, independent reason to add that filter step regardless of the consent question.
