Post new leads to a Microsoft Teams channel

Written for the Microsoft-shop business, often a more traditional service company with a sales team rather than a marketing team, where the leads channel sits alongside the ops channels, not a startup's Slack.

What this connection does

Every time Lead Recorder logs a new lead, a Zap posts it to a Teams channel you choose, name, phone, source, and page, the moment it happens. This is the Zapier route, and it works today.

A native Teams bot is separately in the works

We've also submitted a Lead Recorder bot to the Microsoft Teams Store, a different, more direct way to get alerts once it's live. It isn't published yet. This page covers the Zap, which you can set up right now.

Setting it up

01

Pick the channel

Something your team already watches for day-to-day operations, not a channel that's gone quiet.

02

Open the Zap template and connect Teams

You'll be asked to sign in with your Microsoft work account. On a managed tenant, this may need admin approval, see the gotcha below.

03

Build the message

Teams' message cards support less formatting than Slack's, so keep it to plain lines: name, phone, source, page.

04

Send a test lead

Submit a form or click-to-call on your own site and confirm the message posts to the right channel.

What catches people out

What catches people out

Teams formats messages more plainly than Slack. Rich formatting and tappable links behave differently, so test the card actually looks right before relying on it, rather than assuming it matches a Slack message.

Locked-down tenants often block the connection.Microsoft-shop businesses frequently restrict which third-party apps can post into Teams. If the Zap can't authenticate, that's usually IT policy, not a setup mistake, and it needs a Teams admin to allow it.
