Create HubSpot contacts with the lead source attached

HubSpot's own source attribution is well known for collapsing things into Direct and Offline Sources. Written for someone already inside HubSpot who doesn't trust that field.

What this connection does

This is the Zap that pushes a Lead Recorder lead into HubSpot as a contact, with the source, campaign, and landing page attached as custom properties. It's different from Lead Recorder's native, read-only HubSpot integration, which does the opposite: it reads deal and call data back out of HubSpot to enrich leads already tracked on your site. If that's what you want, see the native HubSpot integration docs instead. Many teams end up wanting both.

Setting it up

01

Create the custom properties first

In HubSpot, add Source, Campaign, and Landing page as contact properties before building the Zap. Mapping to a property that doesn't exist yet fails silently, see the gotcha below.

02

Open the Zap template and connect both accounts

Use the embed below, or open the template directly on Zapier. Connect Lead Recorder as the trigger and HubSpot as the action.

03

Add a Formatter step to split the name

nameField arrives as one combined string. Add a Formatter step (Split Text) if you want it separated into First name and Last name.

04

Send a test lead

Submit a form or click-to-call on your own site and confirm the contact is created with every custom property filled in.

What catches people out

What catches people out

nameField is one string, not First and Last. Mapped directly, it lands whole in First name, blank in Last name. Split it with a Formatter step first if you want both fields populated properly.

Custom properties have to exist before the Zap runs.If Source, Campaign, or Landing page aren't already created as HubSpot properties, the mapping doesn't error, it just silently drops that data. Create the properties first, then build the Zap.
